Timothy Ochola (b. 1994, Kenyan) attained his degree in Landscape Architecture from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture And Technology in 2017 before pursuing his career in art full time. He lives and works in Nairobi.
His work, which is mostly portraiture and figurative with abstracted contours, celebrates elements of identity and the refreshing energy around activities done within the African context while questioning the trajectory of the World. Inspired by the journey of life and the quest for self-learning at each stage, Ochola questions if identity is static or if it’s something that changes. More so looking at identity being a result of where we are from (represented by the contours), and the influence of technology (social media) in shaping who we are at the moment. Looking for avenues of the unexpected, he provokes the viewer to new and perhaps unexplored territories. An ironic twist to images or things you might expect. Or their combinations.
Art to Ochola is a gateway to wellness, mental peace, and service to society. This belief allows him to experiment with the flow and harmony of color. Using Acrylic, Oils, and watercolors he employs warm and bright earthy colors, and contours to express his deepest sentiments. He envisions his art connecting people through experiences, dreams, and questions they have about the world.
